{"id":264,"date":"2012-07-23T03:11:30","date_gmt":"2012-07-23T03:11:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kandynolesstevens.com\/?p=264"},"modified":"2012-07-23T03:11:30","modified_gmt":"2012-07-23T03:11:30","slug":"things-that-make-me-smile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.realsweetgrace.com\/blog\/?p=264","title":{"rendered":"Things that Make me Smile"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On our trip back from Florida, the kids and I listened to the first three books of my favorite book series &#8211; <em>The Mitford Series<\/em> by Jan Karon. It was fun to share my favorite characters with them,\u00a0and the revisiting of &#8220;old friends&#8221; warmed my heart.\u00a0 One of the things I had forgotten was how one of the characters, Cynthia Cavanaugh, is often asked by her husband, Father Tim, &#8220;What do you love?&#8221;.\u00a0 Cynthia seems to always have a triple answer roll right off of her tongue.\u00a0 I have always been enamored with her ability to find 3 things that she adores in the blink of an eye, and I have decided to follow in her footsteps by creating a new category for this blog.\u00a0 It will be known as Monday &#8211; Fun Day where I will post things that make me smile.\u00a0 This will be a hodge-podge of items; so, don&#8217;t expect a routine response\u00a0(My fictional model never says the same three things in her responses either.)<\/p>\n<p>So here goes on our maiden voyage:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 Unexpected visitors &#8211; Midweek, we saw a vehicle slow down and stop in our driveway.\u00a0 Because of a crazy numbering system for our neighborhood, we seldom get too excited about a vehicle stopping by.\u00a0 Because we both have house numbers of\u00a0 206 on a weekly basis, we get our neighbors&#8217; items which include things like mail, furniture, pizza, visitors, and flowers.\u00a0 That last one really stunk because once I was having a bad day, and POOF! here came a dozen roses delivered to my door.\u00a0 I opened the card to read, &#8220;I love you, Caroline.&#8221;\u00a0 Bummer, dude!\u00a0 But I digress . . . because this time it was an unexpected visit from friends who were between appointments in town.\u00a0 It was wonderful!\u00a0 We had a whole hour to visit, catch-up, and have some time together that we would have never had otherwise.\u00a0 I am so thankful that one of her sons made the suggestion to stop by, because it made\u00a0my day to see them.\u00a0 I am so thankful that God has blessed me with such wonderful friends to share this journey, and that will always make me smile!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_265\" style=\"width: 246px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kandynolesstevens.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/07\/zucchini01.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-265\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-265\" title=\"zucchini01\" src=\"http:\/\/kandynolesstevens.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/07\/zucchini01.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"236\" height=\"170\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-265\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Not my actual garden<\/p><\/div>\n<p>2.\u00a0 If you\u00a0follow my Kan-Do group on Facebook, you know that\u00a0yesterday, I waxed poetically about zucchini and\u00a0our harvest so far this year.\u00a0 We have been enjoying zucchini in just about every fashion you can.\u00a0 Since it is my favorite squash, I am trying all kinds of new recipes as well.\u00a0 Think zucchini and smoked sausage saute\u00a0as well as\u00a0eggplant-zucchini bolognese.\u00a0 Y-U-M-M-Y!\u00a0 Every minute spent weeding and watering has been worth every every single bite!\u00a0\u00a0My love of\u00a0zucchini (and a good laugh) will carry into tomorrow&#8217;s blog.\u00a0I think my\u00a0love of gardening stems from the times spent with my parents and grandparents digging in the dirt, planting, tending, and finally harvesting.\u00a0 Despite the dry and hot weather we have been experiencing, every new blossom in my garden reminds me that God still has a plan even in my small patch of ground, and that makes me smile.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 I am always amazed when someone thinks I have a good, creative project or idea, because truthfully, I read a lot.\u00a0 I mean A LOT.\u00a0 So many times, I have seen something in a book, blog, or magazine, and then I tweak it to fit my needs or desires.\u00a0 I enjoy having eclectic tastes and striving to find something that stands out even if it is a small detail.\u00a0 So when I ran across this blog entry, I knew that I would have to try it myself. <a href=\"http:\/\/cupcakesandcashmere.com\/?s=mermaid+nails\">http:\/\/cupcakesandcashmere.com\/?s=mermaid+nails<\/a>\u00a0Even though I don&#8217;t believe I will become a mermaid anytime soon, I can at least pretend with some really fun nails.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_267\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kandynolesstevens.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/07\/mermaid1.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-267\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-267\" title=\"mermaid\" src=\"http:\/\/kandynolesstevens.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/07\/mermaid1.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.realsweetgrace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/mermaid1.jpg 434w, http:\/\/www.realsweetgrace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/mermaid1-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-267\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mermaid nails (Photo from Cupakes &amp; Cashmere blog)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>My first run at this style was for\u00a0Erin and her friend, and\u00a0they were adorable.\u00a0 If you read the blog, you can certainly see how the sky (or the sea) would be the limit for the creative ways you could change this style.\u00a0 After my trip to Florida, I realized how the Gulf of Mexico is etched deeply in my heart.\u00a0 When I stand next to her, I realize how small I really am.\u00a0 And yet, in my smallness, I know that God loves me B-I-G, and that too will always make me smile!\u00a0I wish for you to find the the things that make you smile &#8211; on a daily basis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On our trip back from Florida, the kids and I listened to the first three books of my favorite book series &#8211; The Mitford Series by Jan Karon.
