{"id":359,"date":"2012-09-04T18:58:37","date_gmt":"2012-09-04T18:58:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kandynolesstevens.com\/?p=359"},"modified":"2012-09-04T18:58:37","modified_gmt":"2012-09-04T18:58:37","slug":"25-days-to-go-family-movie-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.realsweetgrace.com\/blog\/?p=359","title":{"rendered":"25 days to go: Family Movie Night"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kandynolesstevens.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/09\/facing-the-giants-081.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-361\" title=\"facing-the-giants-08\" src=\"http:\/\/kandynolesstevens.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/09\/facing-the-giants-081.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"497\" height=\"372\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.realsweetgrace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/facing-the-giants-081.jpg 1280w, http:\/\/www.realsweetgrace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/facing-the-giants-081-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.realsweetgrace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/facing-the-giants-081-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.realsweetgrace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/facing-the-giants-081-624x468.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 497px) 100vw, 497px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you had called my house five years ago on a Friday afternoon and asked what we were up to for the weekend, your answer would have been that I was going to keep all the \u201cchickens in the coop\u201d to\u00a0just hang out as a family.\u00a0 Our favorite way to do that is to make a great snack and have movie night.\u00a0 We would often retreat to the basement and pretend the rest of the world didn\u2019t know where we were holed up.\u00a0 In our perfect cocoon, we have laughed, cried, and laughed until we cried over some of our favorite movies.\u00a0 We have revisited favorites from mine and Daniel\u2019s past, as well as introduced our kids to some of the classics (think <span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">12 Angry Men<\/span> or <span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">To Kill a Mockingbird<\/span>).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While cuddling up under blankets, kids, cats and of course, dogs is comforting, the best part is really the memories we have made doing that.\u00a0 Sometimes we have opened up\u00a0our sanctuary\u00a0for a friend or two, but that isn\u2019t typical.\u00a0 Last year following a varsity football game, we did just that.\u00a0 We went all over town until we finally found a movie that we had wanted to see for a long time.\u00a0 That movie was <span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">The 5<sup>th<\/sup> Quarter<\/span>.\u00a0 If you haven\u2019t seen it, it reminded us so much of ourselves and it brought to the surface so much hurt and healing that we all bawled.\u00a0 Our friend \u201cG\u201d simply held our hands.\u00a0 He knew that it was hard for us to revisit but the message\u00a0was worth it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>That is\u00a0how it goes\u00a0with really good movies (or books).\u00a0 The message they carry can transform your life if you allow it to your heart and soul.\u00a0 (Not all movies do that for us, but sometimes a movie comes along that blows your socks off.)\u00a0 So it was with this year\u2019s movie choice for Reed\u2019s Run.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We had heard a little bit about this movie in 2006, and we went to great lengths to get it.\u00a0 We had it on our Netflix queue for months.\u00a0 Finally it was in.\u00a0 Reed was in the 6<sup>th<\/sup> grade when\u00a0it arrived in the mail.\u00a0 There are several powerful scenes in the movie (which I won&#8217;t give away), but the one that I poignantly remember is the one where an older gentleman is walking down the hallway praying for each kid\u2019s locker.\u00a0 All was quiet in the basement, when out of nowhere Reed bolted up from the floor yelling, \u201cNO WAY!\u201d\u00a0 I was so startled by his reaction that I sent a whole bowl of popcorn flying.\u00a0 After regrouping my sensibilities, I asked Reed what in the world was wrong with him.\u00a0 In typical Reed fashion, he simply said, \u201cI thought I was the only one who did that.\u201d Did what? Walk in the hallway? He explained, and suddenly the popcorn on the floor didn\u2019t seem so important.\u00a0 \u201cI thought I was the only one who walked by a bank of lockers and prayed for each one, Mom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Did my sweet little boy really just say what I thought he did?\u00a0 A quick look around the room confirmed that he did because everyone in the room sat there mouth agape looking at our redhead.\u00a0 Yes, movies do change your life.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The movie choice for this year\u2019s Reed\u2019s Run has been prayed and talked about since last year\u2019s movie.\u00a0 While Star Wars will always be a Reed favorite, this movie shares more about Reed and his life motto \u2013 \u201cFaith, Family &amp; Football\u201d than any other.\u00a0 Reed LOVED this movie!\u00a0 If you aren\u2019t familiar with the film, there is a trailer on our website (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.reedsrun.com\">www.reedsrun.com<\/a>), and it is from the same group that made the movies Fireproof and Courageous.
